It’s now clear that if the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is resolved through military means, Armenia will have nothing to lose: it already has nowhere to fall; even without that, Armenia’s a poor country, but Azerbaijan has something to consider as it too will lose, said Institute of Globalization Problems (IPROG) Director Mikhail Delyagin in an interview with Vesti.az. “Therefore, I believe that no one needs a new war in Karabakh.”
Speaking about the possible intervention of Russia on Armenia’s behalf in case of renewed hostilities, given that both countries are members of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CST), Delyagin noted that the CSTO is a serious structure and providing military assistance is part of its framework.
“I think that the priority for Russia will be its international obligation to ensure peace, and not its obligation to one of the CSTO member states,” said Delyagin.
