The venue for the Feb. 18 rally organized by the Armenian National Congress (HAK) might come as a surprise to some. Don’t hold your breath, but the opposition bloc has decided it will rally outside the Matendaran (the Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts). The venue was announced through pamphlets distributed by HAK activists in Yerevan and in the regions.
What’s on the agenda for the rally? As per the pamphlets, opposition leaders will address, among other things, the “total attack on small and medium businesses and on the middle class, unlawful increased prices, resignation of Serzh Sargsyan and early elections.”
HAK leader (first president of the Republic of Armenia) Levon Ter-Petrossian will make a speech at the Feb. 18 rally. As usual, the rally will be followed by a march on the streets of Yerevan.
Recall, Yerevan City Hall once again denied the opposition group a permit to hold a rally in Liberty Square (next to the opera building), saying that “sports and cultural events” will be held in the square at that time.
Earlier, HAK coordinator Levon Zurabyan had told Epress.am that they were expecting the decision and thus had been prepared with Plan B.
