Former Yerevan mayor, Republic party council member Suren Abrahamyan, in an interview with local daily Aravot (“Morning”), spoke about the situation in Armenia’s ruling coalition.
Don’t you have the impression that, prior to the parliamentary elections, the main debates, it seems, are taking place not so much between the ruling authorities and the opposition, but rather, within the ruling parties, represented by HHK [Republican Party of Armenia] and PHK [Prosperous Armenia], and within the opposition, represented by HAK [Armenian National Congress], Heritage and ARF-D [Armenian Revolutionary Federation, Dashnaktsutyun]?
This governing dispute, between HHK and Robert Kocharian, and PHK, was exceptional; the two sides, in terms of presenting their facts, were absolutely right. Understandable for everyone, that PHK is a ‘project’ developed in the president’s office, and that is done so overtly that many intellectuals and general physicians from the cohort, involved in ensuring an intellectual mass in PHK, went to complain about their situation to [then] defense minister Serzh Sargsyan, asking for advice as to how to behave. And how could someone be included in the HHK list without Robert Kocharian? So, purely in terms of facts, both are correct, but the bickering in terms of commenting on the facts is incomprehensible. And I’m convinced, if Serzh Sargsyan doesn’t restrain them, the active and aggressive HHK youth in a very short period of time will launch a petition to appeal to the Hague court on the issue of Robert Kocharian.
As for the opposition, this or that political force which considers itself to be an opposition (I leave it up to their conscience, I don’t want to comment on that), of course, it pains me, that sometimes uncalled-for quarreling happens among the opposition too. Let’s say, that which is being said about HAK, that we don’t see anyone else apart from ourselves, is the result of misunderstanding or the comment of this or that HAK member’s expressed opinion.
