Protesting drivers of cars with Georgian plates and their supporters contain to be surrounded by police along Sayat-Nova St. in Armenia’s second-largest city, Gyumri. Police are prohibiting protestors from their plan to drive to Yerevan and continue their protest outside the government building.
This was conveyed to Epress.am by Heritage Party MP Zaruhi Postanjyan, who is currently in Gyumri.
“At this moment, we are surrounded, and people have decided to hold a rally at 1:30 pm today at the square on Sayat-Nova street,” she said.
As reported earlier, drivers from Gyumri and Vanadzor planned to protest by driving to Yerevan; however, the road was and continues to remain blocked by police.
Also speaking to Epress.am was Armenian National Congress (HAK) Gyumri area coordinator Ashot Zakaryan, who said that HAK members will also be participating in the rally.
“Basically a spontaneous rally has been organized and HAK will be actively participating,” he said.
Recall, since Feb. 5, a few dozen drivers have been protesting the high customs tariffs on cars imported to Armenia from neighboring Georgia.
