Armenian people will fight for moral and ideological issues, but not for their stomachs, said Union of National Self-Determination (NSDU) party leader Paruyr Hayrikyan, speaking on the likelihood of a social revolt in Armenia at a press conference in Yerevan today.
“The Armenian people, fortunately, are not capable of a social revolt. Armenians can leave the country [to satisfy] their stomachs, but, fortunately, they wont fight for their stomachs,” he said.
“Revolution means to kill people. You’re not going to satisfy people through revolution. Thieves assume power through revolution,” said Hayrikyan, noting that it’s something else altogether when people organize themselves and take to the streets.
The party leader recalled the events of March 1, 2008, in Armenia, saying he’s convinced that “on Mar. 1, Levon Ter-Petrossian could have told people three hours earlier to go home if he knew he wasn’t going to come.”
