Armenia must retract its signature from the Armenia-Turkey Protocols, said Director of the International Secretariat (Central Hai Dat office) of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF-D, or Dashnaktsutyun) Bureau in Yerevan Giro Manoyan, speaking to journalists today.
According to him, the reasons and opportunities for this are many and it’s necessary to do this as soon as possible, since Turkey is constantly stating that it’s all the same, it won’t ratify these Protocols until the Nagorno-Karabakh issue is resolved.
“Last year on Apr. 22, when the president stopped the Protocols’ ratification process, in his statement he said they’re not retracting their signature at this time. It’s clear that that ‘at this time’ has to have a deadline, and I think that deadline has approached, at least in the president’s mind. This is purely an assumption, but, considering all those statements that the president made in the last few weeks, months, particularly in Cyprus, it must be concluded that, it seems, in the president’s mind, that ‘at this time’ deadline has expired or is expiring or will expire soon,” he said.
Manoyan added, Turkey is trying to put pressure on Armenia so that Armenia doesn’t retract its signature.
