Opposition Must Not Allow Authorities to Stay in Power for Another Term: Khachatryan

The coalition declaration signed last week by the Republican Party of Armenia, Prosperous Armenia and Rule of Law (Orinats Yerkir) has unpublicized aspects: this is a practice for uniting the ruling elite, said Heritage Party MP Vardan Khachatryan, speaking to journalists in Yerevan today.

“In this situation, the nature of the statement cannot be long-lasting. This is a declaration developed under certain contradictions. It’s being pushed forward so the ruling authorities’ ‘reproduction’ [stay in power for another term],” he said.

According to him, the opposition’s main purpose is not to allow the ruling authorities to stay in power for a second term.

The parliamentarian noted that joint efforts by the opposition are necessary in order to avoid fraud during elections. In his opinion, it’s necessary to work with each opposition force on the threshold of elections.

“To exclude cooperation with an arbitrary opposition force is nonsense,” he said.
