Participating in yesterday’s Armenian National Congress (HAK) rally was writer, publicist Marine Petrosyan, who 2-3 years ago used to come to all the opposition rallies. Then she began to criticize HAK’s tactics and stopped going to the rallies.
Speaking to Epress.am, she said before the rally she noticed enthusiasm in the people.
“I went to the rally to feel that enthusiasm, and, truth be told, I had missed it. I noticed that the people were many and they were very disgruntled in a way, but that festive mood wasn’t there. That which I had missed and remembered wasn’t there at the rally,” she said.
In Petrosyan’s opinion, HAK is preparing for (not pre-term but) regular elections.
“In my opinion, [HAK leader] Levon Ter-Petrossian is using the fact of many people at the rally as a playing card to reach an agreement with Serzh Sargsyan. Levon says, ‘see, there’s so many people by my side,’ and with minor concessions, he wants to reach an agreement. This simply ensures the increase of Levon’s rating in the next elections,” she said.
Petrosyan considered unacceptable the 15 demands announced by Ter-Petrossian and put to a vote by the crowd.
“A normal man would be insulted by such a thing. That could’ve been done a different way, but to announce something in the name of that many people and call it voting, it’s offensive in a way. This is a bad precedent; if in the future issues get resolved through such voting, it’ll be dreadful,” she said, concerned.
