Shoving and Uttering Profanities: Police Hinder Protest Today

Street vendors were protesting outside the Armenian government building today. Prior to the start of the protest, a large number of police officers had gathered, not permitting protestors to approach the building’s main entrance. Almost double the number of protestors, police had surrounded the nearly 20 women who had come to protest today, as many do on Thursdays.

Police were seen being rough with protestors, even uttering sexual profanities to one of the protesting women. The woman in question began to cry, while the other women tried to calm her down, saying “It’s their wives and sisters” [to whom their uttering profanities].

As reported by the Epress.am correspondent on the scene, protesters had gathered on the sidewalk across from the government building, and joining them were Heritage Party MPs Zaruhi Postanjyan, Armen Martirosyan and Anahit Bakhshyan. Police didn’t discriminate: they were likewise jostling the deputies and not allowing them to come forward.
