The anti-government demonstrations in Arab countries that have led to the downfall of the ruling regimes in Tunisia and Egypt may also spread to Turkey, believes former Turkish intelligence analyst Mahir Kaynak, reports Trend news agency.
“We may see a similar situation in Turkey, particularly in the central and eastern areas of the country,” Kaynak told Trend over the phone.
The country’s impoverished eastern regions are inhabited mainly by Kurds, some of whom are members of the radical separatist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
However, according to Kaynak, recent developments in Arab countries will have a positive impact on Turkey’s position in the region.
“These events will have a positive impact on Turkey’s position and will not harm the country, “he said.
