No Need for Mediators Between Government and the People: HHK MP

“We consider using the language of ultimatums to be unacceptable — we don’t even use that language. It’s unacceptable,” Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) MP Hovhannes Sahakyan told journalists in Yerevan today, referring to the list of 15 demands,13 of which are aimed at the ruling authorities, announced by opposition group the Armenian National Congress (HAK) at their March 1 rally.

Sahakyan initially tried to clarify specifically for which demand the journalist was seeking comments. “Well, every day they [i.e. HAK] present a demand, how should I know which one you’re referring to?”

According to the MP, there’s no need for mediators between the ruling authorities and the people.

“One doesn’t announce dialogue from up there [referring to the podium above the people at the HAK rally]: one comes, sits around the table and finds the golden middle,” he said, noting that from the first day of Serzh Sargsyan’s presidential term the ruling party has been open to dialogue.
