The opposition always has in its arsenal fair demands, but they can’t be presented in the form of an ultimatum, said Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) MP Hamlet Harutyunyan, referring to the Armenian National Congress’ list of 15 demands (13 of which are aimed at the ruling authorities) announced at the opposition bloc’s Mar. 1 rally. The HHK deputy added, Armenia’s authorities always call for dialogue, but “don’t make any ultimatums.”
“In the first place, this dialogue has to exist within the opposition. I would like for an example of dialogue to be shown by the opposition arena,” he said.
Heritage Party MP Stepan (Styopa) Safaryan noticed a change in tactics in HAK’s latest 15 demands.
“If before, when presenting demands, they said all demands without exception had to be met, well now they say that dialogue can begin if a significant portion of the demands are satisfied. A softening of HAK’s position can be noticed here,” he said.
