Favorable conditions are being created for the opposition in Armenia today: the authorities have to think about reforms in the country and their activities, since they have something to lose, said New Times party leader Aram Karapetyan.
Karapetyan considers the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun, or ARF-D) and the Heritage Party to be the real opposition.
“I’ve always considered the ARF-D as opposition,” he said. As for the Heritage Party, Karapetyan, based on his party’s experience, recently gave “brotherly” advice to the party to fight not against law enforcement agencies, but rather against the highest-ranking circles of authorities.
The People’s Party, led by Tigran Karapetyan (no relation), according to Aram Karapetyan, is not a real opposition and the People’s Party leader himself has repeatedly said his party is centrist.
To a journalist’s comment that Tigran Karapetyan today is asking for the Armenian president’s resignation, the New Times party leader said, “Then after ALM [TV, owned by Tigran Karapetyan] was shut down, a serious change occurred in Tigran Karapetyan’s views.”
