The Public Chief Prosecution of Diyarbakır in Turkey decided to lift the access ban to Blogspot.com (owned by Google’s Blogger). Access to the site and millions of blogs published by the Google sub-service was suspended two weeks ago upon a complaint of the Turkish Satellite Television provider Digitürk, reports BIA News Center.
The Prosecution’s Office for the Investigation of Press Crimes removed the ban to Blogspot.com and related IP addresses on Monday. The decision was based on removing the following Blogspot blogs: sportrhd, trgoals2, freesoccertrhd and izleligtvblog.
It might take a few days though to lift the restriction from all related sites and bring their accessibility back to normal.
As previously reported, a court in Turkey issued the ban in response to a copyright complaint by satellite TV firm Digiturk. It brought the complaint when it discovered that some of the matches it was broadcasting were showing up on Blogspot pages.
About 600,000 Turkish bloggers are thought to use the Google tool to publish their personal journals.
Cyber-rights activist Yaman Akdeniz told the Hurriyet news site that the ban was a “disproportionate response” that would inconvenience millions of people.
“I understand there is a legitimate concern regarding Digiturk’s commercial rights but banning all these websites will not solve the issue,” he told the site.
