Hovannisian Hopes for Visit, ‘Reasonable Solutions’ from Armenia’s President

“At this time I am continuing my hunger strike–fast, and that in Liberty Square, and I expect that… the authorities will use their intellect, conscience, spirit, political awareness and obligation toward the state to radically change their approaches,” said Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian at an outdoor press conference in Yerevan’s Liberty Square today.

That which was happening in the last 10 days in Liberty Square, Hovannisian continued, suggests that people are truly entering a new harbor which requires a renewed dedication to Armenia’s freedom, rights and national interests.

“This is not a demand and I don’t have a request; I respect people; all are human and have very good qualities. If in the coming days, the Armenian president or another state official approaches [me] and promises reasonable solutions, of course, I can review my approaches on the spot,” he said.

Hovannisian also informed the press that yesterday a young man, identifying himself as a representative of the presidential office, approached him and said that upon recommendation by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, (Adviser to the President of the Republic of Armenia) Yuri Vardanyan would like to have a private meeting with him.

The party leader said that he is ready at any moment to have a meeting in a public venue; for example, on the bench at Liberty Square. However, after the incident, Hovannisian received no news from Vardanyan. Further, the party leader said that Vardanyan should know that they won’t agree to any private meetings.
