Russian Football Fans Demand Compensation, Formal Apology from Armenia

The All-Russian Fans’ Union sent a formal appeal to Russian Football Union President Sergey Fursenko, asking him to look into what happened before the Armenia-Russia Euro 2012 qualifying match in Yerevan, when more than 100 fans from Russia, tickets in hand, could not get into the stadium, reports soccer.ru.

“In our opinion, the lack of seats in the special section provided for us [i.e. more tickets sold than there were seats] was an obvious flaw of the host. Besides, the incident occurred 15–20 minutes before the match. Also added to this can be the numerous complaints of the huge crowds and crush at the stadium entrance. A clear miscalculation on the part of organizers is evident.

“We ask the Russian Football Union in conjunction with the Football Federation of Armenia to clarify this issue and consider the possibility of a formal apology and a compensation for the fans by the Armenian federation,” reads the appeal.
