No Rally in Azerbaijan on April 2, Says Azerbaijani MP

Today’s opposition in Azerbaijan has neither the strength nor the political capacity to come to power, said political analyst, MP Rasim Musabekov, commenting on attempts by the opposition to hold a rally on April 2 in the center of the Azerbaijani capital of Baku, reports 1news.az.

“I don’t divide the opposition into [those that are] constructive and [those that are] radical. Any opposition must strive to achieve power. It’s a different issue that today they have neither the strength nor the political capacity to do so,” he said.

“In any case, the number of people who wanted to come out to the unauthorized rally indicates that this is a very weak opposition,” he added.

In the deputy’s opinion, there was no rally on April 2.

“In fact, it was an attempt not so much to show force, but to show that we still exist,” he said.

Recall, during Saturday’s anti-government protests in Baku, according to various sources, anywhere from 100–200 people were detained by police.

Despite the numerous arrests, Isa Gambar, leader of the opposition Musavat Party, and Ali Kerimli (alternative spelling Ali Karimli), leader of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP), considered the rally to be successful.
