It’s long since the public seriously accepted the decisions by Yerevan City Hall on granting or not granting permission to hold a rally in Liberty Square. This is how Armenian National Congress (HAK) leader Levon Ter-Petrossian’s spokesperson Arman Munisyan commented on yesterday’s decision by the municipality to deny the opposition group’s request for an Apr. 20 rally at Liberty Square.
“The Armenian National Congress no longer considers it serious to comment on the decisions approved by city hall,” he said.
Recall, as in numerous previous incidents, the city cited other events to be held on that day (“and the days following”) in Liberty Square as reasons for prohibiting the opposition from organizing a rally on that day. As per usual, the municipality proposed the rally take place outside the Matenadaran (Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts) followed by a march along HAK’s traditional route.
