Famous Armenian duduk player Djivan Gasparyan and his grandson, Djivan Gasparyan Jr., gave a concert with the Moscow Virtuosi choir conducted by Vladimir Spivakov at the Moscow International Performing Arts Center on Mar. 26.
Speaking about the occasion at a press conference in Yerevan today, Djivan Gasparyan said they plan to perform the same concert with Spivakov in Yerevan, which will most likely take place in the fall.
Djivan Gasparyan Jr. in turn, said the Mar. 26 concert went very well and he was inspired by the fact that he shares the stage with well-known musicians.
Gasparyan Sr. spoke of his grandson, assuring journalists that Gasparyan Jr. is very well-known in the US.
“I brought him to Yerevan so he can become more immersed in Armenian music,” he said.
The maestro recalled that he himself at one point gathered his family and left for the US, since no one notices or regards them in Armenia. According to him, his self-respect didn’t allow him to appeal to anyone for assistance. But the master of duduk isn’t dissatisfied by people, saying that they don’t look badly upon him.
Asked whether his grandson, like many singers who consider themselves stars, performs in restaurants, Djivan Gasparyan said, “Djivan is a cool guy, well brought up. [Expressions such as] ‘We scored this deal’ and so on — he doesn’t understand such things. But if he’s asked to play something among friends, of course, he plays.”
On Apr. 29, Djivan Gasparyan will be performing at the State Kremlin Palace Concert Hall and Theatre in Moscow together with the Presidential Orchestra of Russia and the Choir of the Moscow Sretensky Monastery in a concert conducted by renowned Russian director Vladimir Spivakov.
