Armenia’s State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition will begin inspections into the banana and coffee markets in Armenia as result of noticeable changes in prices.
The Commission is asking all major retailers in these markets to provide them with information on import and sale volumes, as well as providing grounds for the recent rise in prices, in the next 5 days.
The Commission noted that the price of 1 kg of bananas in Armenia had gone up to 1,120 drams (a little over $3 US) in March, when it was sold for 840 drams (about $2.27 US) in January. As for coffee, according to the Committee’s observations, the international price for coffee went up, and inspections into the local market will clarify to what extent the rise in local prices are in line with the rise in international prices.
