Armenian First League football (soccer) team FC Ararat Yerevan fan club members today decided to ask Ararat manager Arkady Andreasyan to resign. As told to Epress.am, the reason for the request is not only the team’s poor performance, but also Ararat’s reputation being ruined, which is tied to an incident that occurred this past Saturday.
As previously reported, during the break of the Ararat-Pyunik match on Saturday, according to Totalfootball.am sports reporter Ashot Arushanyan, he was subject to a beating by Andreasyan and those accompanying him. Arushyan said that Andreasyan, after asking “Who are you photographing?” and cursing, punched him, while others began to hit him, asking him to erase the photos. Following the incident, said Arushanyan, the manager fled the stadium, escorted by police vehicles.
Ararat fan club members said, beginning with the last two games, they have begun to “boycott” Ararat’s matches: though they attend the matches, they don’t cheer for their team.
Note, FC Ararat Yerevan’s chairperson is Hratch Kaprielian, who has not been in the country for the past two months and thus, the team is managed solely by Andreasyan.
