In what is considered to be the second time this year, the Yerevan metro has again be adorned with graffiti art. The incident this time took place on the night of Apr. 28–29 at the Garegin Nzhdeh station.
The train was decorated from both sides. The graffiti covered the doors as well as the windows. This time, apart from the usual colorful thread, the graffiti artists also sprayed the words Yerevan (in English) in white on the cars.
“We think that they get to to stations through the poorly built tunnels in different parts of the city left over from Soviet times,” said one subway employee.
Recall, after the first instance of graffiti appearing on the subway, Yerevan metro press secretary Ninel Vardanyan refused to comment without the director being informed. For two weeks, she responded to the author’s questions with “I refuse to comment. This is simply absurd. We don’t respond to such questions. I am not confirming this incident.”
Efforts to tighten security and involve additional law enforcement agencies and uncovering the culprits have so far been unsuccessful.
