Struggle Toward Dismantling Despotic Government, Zurabyan Tells European Friends of Armenia

Senior representative of the opposition bloc the Armenian National Congress (HAK) Levon Zurabyan and HAK central office representative Avetis Avagyan today welcomed to their Yerevan office representatives of the Brussels-based organization European Friends of Armenia (EuFoA), who are in Armenia to become more familiar with the situation in the country as well as to find out on the level of EU-Armenian relations.

“We presented the situation reigning in Armenia; we gave high importance to activating cooperation and the development of relations with the European Union, but we also noted that the biggest obstacle in this direction is the situation of democracy in Armenia. Essentially, the most important indicator today in which Armenia has to improve its ranking is democracy and respect for human rights, the establishment of democratic freedoms,” Zurabyan told the press after their meeting.

Zurabyan also stated that the Armenian National Congress, in its meeting with EuFoA representatives, described its position on the issue of Armenia-Turkey relations, as well as spoke about Armenia’s relations with Russia and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“We clearly presented that today, essentially, there’s a struggle, the people’s struggle, the public struggle toward establishing a democratic public and dismantling Armenia’s despotism,” he said.
