How could the duo from Azerbaijan win over 43 countries who awarded them 221 points in the Eurovision Song Contest? Even a few days after the end of the contest, this question still continues to baffle Europe and Russia, reports LifeNews.
Perhaps the secret is that the music of the song “Running Scared” performed by Nigar Jamal and Eldar Gasimov is painfully similar to the American group One Republic’s song “Secret,” according to the Russian-language news source.
“I would say the songs are similar. The guys from Azerbaijan were inspired by this track,” singer Dmitry Malikov told Life Showbiz, “There is a general tone, a general harmony, melodic direction, but the winning song, of course, should have been more original.”
“When it comes to plagiarism, one must understand that we’re talking about melody. In these two compositions, the same harmonic series is used,” said singer Kai Metov (pictured on album cover). “Even if from the Azerbaijani duo’s song you remove the melody and leave some chords, the listener will immediately have the same associative array as with the song by One Republic.”
