Yerevan street traders who normally sell their perishable foodstuffs on Tigran Mets Ave. but were forbidden from doing so under the new ban will now be able to do their trade on the steps of the pedestrian underpass in front of Rossiya shopping mall. This news was conveyed to Epress.am by Arman Hovhannisyan, a leading specialist and employee with the Yerevan “Kentron” (“center”) administrative district trade division.
“Then they’ll establish the mini-market and they’ll move there. It’s still not clear when the mini-market will be built. However, till then, the traders can fully do their trade here,” he said, adding that not all street vendors accepted the venue proposed to them. “It’s their problem, that they don’t want to move about 100 meters this way. They’re used to their spot; that’s the problem.”
Epress.am spoke with a street trader by the name of Arpik who had already moved to the new space. She said though she’s not happy with the proposed venue, she sees no other option since they’ve been warned if they attempt to sell their goods on the street, they will be confiscated.
Asked why she’s not happy with the new spot, Arpik said, “We’re dissatisfied with the area, that they’re stairs. We can’t get settled; I’ve put a few baskets so I can stand. We’ll try and see how the trade fares here,” she said.
