On May 19, senior representative of the opposition bloc the Armenian National Congress (HAK) Levon Zurabyan met with the EU representative, the ambassadors of the UK, France, the Netherlands and Sweden, as well as several other representatives of embassies of EU countries in Armenia.
According to the press release issued by HAK, the main topic discussed during the meeting was the political situation in the country ahead of elections, the ways to resolve the political and socioeconomic crisis in Armenia, the holding of lawful, free and fair elections in the country, as well as the possibility of holding snap nationwide elections.
“Levon Zurabyan presented to the EU diplomats the process of the three demands put forth by the Armenian National Congress to the authorities being fulfilled and expressed confidence that prerequisites will be established on May 31 to begin dialogue with the agenda of forming legitimate government through snap elections in Armenia. Zurabyan noted that one of the important guarantees of holding fair, transparent elections, with the assistance of the EU and its member states, can become such an international election observation mission that will allow to place at least one permanent observer at each of the approximately 2,000 [voting] stations.
“Also analyzed during the discussion was the serious socioeconomic situation in Armenia, the need to destabilize the vicious monopolized, oligarchic economic system, and the vital need to restore the violated interests of small and medium-sized businesses and village economies,” according to the HAK press service.
