Many people will be released as a result of the general amnesty, but some time later they will again return to prison, said Helsinki Association for Human Rights President Mikael Danielyan in a press conference in Yerevan today.
According to the human rights activist, “If someone at one time stole a chicken and one year after he gets out, a robbery takes place again in that quarter, that district, they will gather everyone who spent time in prison and, beating them, they will decide who is the thief.”
“The amnesty bill has one problem: to come out to the international community. The international community gave money to Armenia and now it will do everything so that money comes back. Nothing else interests these authorities — only and only maintaining power and getting money,” he said.
According to Danielyan, there wouldn’t be international pressure if there wasn’t pressure from within the country.
