‘Our Future Depends on One Person and that Person is You’: Nikol Pashinyan at HAK Rally

“Proud citizens of the Republic of Armenia, I love you, I am proud of you. This three-year struggle has shown that there are no traitors in this square, there is no one in this square who is doubtful, in this square are Armenia’s victorious citizens,” is how recently released from prison, opposition activist and chief editor of local daily Haykakan Jamanak (“Armenian Times”) Nikol Pashinyan began his speech at the Armenian National Congress (HAK) rally at Liberty Square earlier this evening.

Pashinyan said that the opposition is beginning a specific political process geared toward presidential and parliamentary pre-term elections and it has enough will and determination to reach this aim, in order to “be released from the villainous clutch of kleptocracy.”

According to the prominent HAK member, the Sargsyan administration deprived Armenian citizens of the hope for a future, forcing them to look for the future in other countries. Thus, pre-term elections are a political necessity stemming from vital interests — “the only way to restore the people’s faith in our own forces, our own power.”

“Our future depends on one person and that person is you,” said Pashinyan to rally participants.
