Archeologists have discovered the ruins of a 7 or 8th century city along the Georgia-Azerbaijan border.
Based on preliminary research, experts presume that the fortress city is Varazmanavr, which is spread over 12 hectares.
As can be determined from a surface inspection, the city was encircled by a large fortress wall. Inside, apart from residential houses, there was a chapel. Researchers have discovered fragments of this very chapel.
Further archaeological excavations along the Georgia-Azerbaijan border have not begun due to lack of funds. Experts believe that more meaningful discoveries can be made by digging deeper, reports Georgia Online.
