The company servicing the no. 76 public transportation route (operated by minibuses, otherwise known as marshrutkas) has filed a lawsuit against Yerevan City Hall for its decision to terminate the city’s contract with the company beginning May 20 of this year. This news was conveyed to Epress.am by head of the Information and Public Relations Department at Yerevan City Hall Artur Gevorgyan.
“Since proceedings are underway, the activity of this route cannot be ceased,” he explained.
Earlier, the municipality had received complaints that the drivers of the company operating the no. 76 route collected 200 drams in transportation fares per passenger (whilst the regular fare is 100 drams). The director of the company servicing the route confirmed this, which was a violation of the agreement between the company and city hall.
Taking as a basis the aforementioned situation, as well as several violations uncovered as a result of monitoring, as per a decision by the Yerevan mayor, agreements with the companies were to have been terminated as of May 20 and from that day forward, the companies were to be deprived of the right to service these routes.
Recall, 4 people had died and 9 were injured in the accident on May 17 between a GAZelle servicing the no. 76 route and a Mercedes-Benz.
