Neutral passports will soon be issued to people residing in the Georgian breakaway regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali, reports Trend news agency.
Legal amendments to the procedure for issuing legal Georgian passports, ID cards (residence permits) for registration of foreign nationals and Georgian citizens were passed during Monday’s parliamentary meeting.
Under the bill, until Georgian jurisdiction on the territory of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region (the former South Ossetian Autonomous Region) is fully restored, legitimate residents of these regions will be issued a neutral identity card or neutral travel document. The state emblem will not be fully displayed on either of the documents.
Persons with a neutral identity card or neutral travel document will be able to enter Abkhazia and South Ossetian territory from any direction.
