The military parade in Baku on Sunday was the third such parade since 1992.
In the publication “Viewers’ Reflections,” Contact.az reports that in the text read out during the broadcast of the parade on local television, the name of Azerbaijan’s previous president, Heydar Aliyev (father of current president Ilham Aliyev), was stated 19 times, while Ilham Aliyev’s name was stated 10 times. Furthermore, there were 4 close-ups of First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.
The military parade in Baku’s central square was reportedly the largest in the history of Azerbaijan. It was held to mark Armed Forces Day and the 20th anniversary of the country’s independence.
More than 6,000 troops marched in the parade and about 400 types of military equipment was on display. In addition, Azerbaijan army’s Russian-made C-300 (or S-300) anti-ballistic missiles were also displayed during the parade.
