A criminal case has been launched against gynecologist F. Madoyan for negligence which resulted in a patient’s death. The preliminary investigation by police in Armenia’s Shirak region has been completed and the prosecutor has confirmed the bill of indictment, according to a statement by the RA General Prosecutor’s Office.
The preliminary investigation revealed that on Jun. 18, 2010, Dr. Madoyan, a gynecologist working at Gyumri Polyclinic 1, examined a female patient (E. Yeghoyan) and “decided to analyze the fat on the cervix,” reads the statement.
According to the preliminary investigation body, there was no need to analyze the fat on the cervix. Furthermore, which fulfilling his professional duties “improperly,” Dr. Madoyan injected the patient with Lidocaine, as a result of which E. Yeghoyan had an anaphylactic shock, fell into a coma and died.
Dr. Madoyan is charged according to the Section 2 of RA Criminal Code Article 130 (“Failure to implement or improper implementation of professional duties by medical and support personnel”). He has signed a written pledge not to leave the country. The criminal case has been sent to the Court of First Instance of Shirak Region.
