Environmentalists to Protest Mining in Armenia Outside Government Building

Bicycle+ NGO, members of SOS Teghut (Save Teghut Forest), chief editor of Hetq Online Edik Baghdasaryan and a few activists not affiliated with any groups will be protesting outside the Armenian government building on Jul. 14 against “stolen national wealth and politicians who, abusing their position, have appropriated Armenia’s womb and get rich paying those foreigners,” according to a press statement released by organizers.

“Let’s protest against state employees who turn a blind eye to plunderers’ unlawful activities and obscenities, receiving their share, against the mining industry people who, receiving a huge income, disregard the principles of social responsibility, against owners of mines who contaminate Armenia’s nature, destroying forests, dumping toxic tailings in picturesque gorges,” say protest organizers.
