Priest Curses MPs Who Voted in Favor of Georgia’s Armenian Churches Having Legal Status

Father Bartholomew of the Georgian Orthodox Church cursed those MPs who voted in favor of the legislative amendment that granted status to different religious groups.

“I curse all deputies who voted for this law. Damn their heads on their shoulders, their shoulders on their bodies, their hips over their knees, their knees over their shins, their shins over their ankles, their ankles over their feet. Let the earth under their feet be cursed; let the world turn upside down and hell swallow their spirits and bodies. Amen,” he said, reports newspaper Kviris Kronik.

Head of the Georgian Church, Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, along the same vein, said, “He who humiliated and humiliates the church will surely be punished… dying is the family and blood of the one who dismantles the church!

Georgian Labour Party leader Shalva Natelashvili insists that “President Mikheil Saakashvili made a commitment to certain regions of America to approve such a law back in 1993–1995.”

“You saw that the American ambassador, through an official statement, expressed his appreciation and welcomed that which happened with religion? Isn’t that an official statement? And [Polish-American political analyst Zbigniew] Brzezinski’s remarks too are well known: ‘After the victory over the Communist regime, our goal is to win the [Christian] Orthodoxy…’ That is what they are trying to carry out with their hands…,” he said.
