There will be More Public Transport Vehicles in Yerevan on Sept. 1 if Necessary: Mayor

In accordance with a Yerevan mayor decree, companies offering public transportation services in the Armenian capital have conducted technical checks and are ready to accommodate the increased flow of passengers on Sept. 1 (the start of the school year), the head of the Transport Department at Yerevan City Hall said on Monday during a regular working consultation at the municipality.

Yerevan mayor Karen Karapetyan instructed the transport companies to once again confirm the loads they can accommodate on their routes and if necessary, to increase the number of vehicles in service on this day. In order to avoid traffic congestion, companies were also instructed to coordinate route schedules from stops at the end of the line as well as bus stations.

Weighing in on the issue of constructing pedestrian bridges over major thoroughfares in the capital, the Yerevan mayor instructed all departments responsible to plan a logical work schedule for 2012, so that it will be possible to begin work from early spring and have it completed by the fall, according to a statement issued by the Yerevan City Hall Information and Public Relations Department.
