Fresh Supermarket Chain Fined for False Advertising

The State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition of the Republic of Armenia on Monday discussed the case against local supermarket “Fresh.”

Recall, from May 4 to 17, Fresh was offering a sale on kiwis — 3 for the price of 375 drams (a little over $1 USD). However, on May 10, a customer reportedly paid 510 drams ($1.38 USD) — nearly one-and-a-half-times more than the advertised price.

The State Commission ruled to fine the supermarket chain 500,000 drams ($1,357 USD).

Note, the Fresh supermarket chain has been sold to another major player in the Armenian market — Star supermarket. Speaking to Epress.am on Saturday, Star Chief Executive Director Vahan Kerobyan noted that in order to seal the deal the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition’s approval and signing of the final documents are necessary. The price at which Star purchased Fresh has not yet been reported.
