The mother of Vardan Sevyan, who died on Aug. 19 while serving in Armenia’s Armed Forces during a period of non combat, determined to uncover the truth in the circumstances surrounding her son’s death, will visit the site of the incident today.
Helsinki Association for Human Rights representative Arman Veziryan, who visited Vardan’s mother, Susanna Sevyan, conveyed this news to Epress.am today.
According to Veziryan, Sevyan’s family still has not been named as the deceased successor and apart from the death certificate, they have been given no other documents. What’s remarkable is that after Vardan died, though the incident took place in Goris, it was a Sevan garrison investigator who visited their home.
Furthermore, Epress.am was informed today that Vardan’s mother will be asking for the findings from the investigation.
As reported earlier, military officials claimed that 20-year-old Vardan Sevyan committed suicide after learning that his girlfriend had married another man, but Sevyan’s mother and sister strongly reject that explanation, saying that Vardan did not have a girlfriend. They also say that he had complained of ill-treatment at the hands of an army officer.
