Liberty Square: As It Happens. ‘Much Has Changed in Armenia’ (PHOTOS)

10:05 am: Pan-Armenian National Movement (HHSh) leader Aram Manukyan urged those gathered not to believe the rumors that the police might disperse them from Yerevan’s Liberty Square. According to him, this is not possible particularly the day before French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s expected visit to the country, when all of Armenia will be in the center of attention and no one would attempt to disperse those fighting for democracy in the square.

10:00 am: Armenian National Congress (HAK) out-spoken representative Nikol Pashinyan expressed confidence that much has changed in Armenia in the past 4 days. “These 4 days generally show a lot, that there are people in Armenia who will never reconcile with a kleptocratic state. We are those people, who are currently at Liberty Square.”

9:50 am: Pashinyan greeted the residents of “Tent City” in Liberty Square early this morning. He spoke about the fact that every morning, activists, as well as HAK senior representatives, with brooms in hand, clean up Liberty Square, considering this basic gesture to be an important act.

According to Pashinyan (pictured below), they have broken that assumption that one cannot be a man if he holds a broom.

9:30 am: HAK leader Levon Ter-Petrossian paid a visit to Liberty Square at around 1:30 am. He spent a lot of time speaking with HAK youth activists.
