Commander of the Shushi battalion during the Nagorno-Karabakh War and one of the founders of the Sardarapat civic movement Jirayr Sefilian, at the request of a group of youth, will be in Yerevan’s Liberty Square between 3 and 6 pm.
Sefilian conveyed this news himself at a press conference in the Armenian capital earlier today. Though he does not agree with the opposition’s demand of snap elections, Sefilian continued, he, nevertheless, will be in Liberty Square to meet with the youth who are there. Recall, supporters of the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (HAK) have been staging round-the-clock rallies in the square for five days in a row.
The Sardarapat movement member said he welcomed all those who are in Liberty Square, particularly the numerous youth who spend their nights there, who make him proud.
“We have told our opposition colleagues on several occasions that participating in elections during the term of this government’s system is a crime, but they don’t listen. They shouldn’t have entered into the rules of the game put forward by the current dictator. And we can’t be a participant to such a political process,” he said.
According to Sefilian, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan will wear out HAK so much so that by 2012 they will be begging to get into parliament as their supporters.
