Defense Minister Asked for Names of Dead, Missing in Armenian Army

A civic initiative group called the “Army in Reality” has sent a letter to Armenian defense minister Seyran Ohanyan asking him for the following information for the period of May 12, 1994, to Sept. 30, 2011:

  • the list of those dead, missing and subject to violence in Armenia’s Armed Forces, including first and last name, place of residence, and the reasons for and circumstances surrounding their death, missing or disability status
  • the list of servicemen held accountable for breach of conduct, murder or other military crimes, including position and type of punishment or how they were held accountable
  • the number of senior officers currently serving in the army who were sentenced by the courts for military crimes and served their sentence
  • the number of servicemen discharged for health reasons
  • the list of senior officers sent state military institutions abroad for study or training, including data on who from this group currently serve in Armenia’s Armed Forces
  • data on the sons of high-ranking Armenian officials’ mandatory conscription in the armed forces, including grounds for deferring or releasing them from military service
  • the list of organizations that won the state procurement tender providing food, medication, uniforms, and stationery supplies to Armenia’s armed forces
