Playing with the Irish team was similar to a mini final, said head coach of Armenia’s national football team Vardan Minasyan at a press conference in the Armenian capital today.
“Of course, the match left a little bit of a painful trace on us. But we had more achievements than failures this year,” he said.
On the need to view replays, a topic often discussed in the world of football (soccer), Minasyan said that that has both positive and negative aspects.
“FIFA or UEFA is working on the issue of applying replays. I know that some are for it while some are against, but I can say one thing, that football now is very dynamic, it’s accelerated. Probably there will come a time when they will introduce replays,” he said.
Minasyan also weighed in on recent reports that the composition of the winning squad won’t change. Recall, Edgar Malakyan replaced Arthur Yedigaryan and Hrayr Mkoyan replaced Arthur Yuspashyan in the match with Ireland as compared to that with Macedonia.
“I’m not one of those coaches who are guided by the premise that you don’t change a winning squad. They did that in the old days, in my opinion. Now the tactical factor is great; you have to prepare yourself, based on the opponent’s strong and weak points, which I do. To play against Ireland with two pivotal midfielders, it seems to me, would’ve been wrong, because we would definitely lose a person. The main idea for this change — to put the accent on getting out of the center quickly,” he said.
On selecting other players for Armenia’s national team, the head coach said one of the players he has his eye on is FC Krylia Sovetov Samara midfielder Roman Grigoryan.
“I’m preparing to watch Roman Grigoryan of Krylia Sovetov’s game. But there will be many searches. In the same youth team, there are good players; players abroad are also in the center of our attention. The goalkeeper issue is a very serious issue — it’s our team’s biggest problem. Work is being carried out to this effect, and definitely we will have some news soon,” he said.
