Armenia Secures Another Victory in European Team Chess Championship

The team representing Armenia at the 18th European Team Chess Championship held in Porto Carras, Greece, from Nov. 3–11, secured its second victory on Monday. Levon Aronian, Sergei Movsesian, Vladimir Akopian and Gabriel Sargissian beat the team from Denmark, 3.5–0.5, in Round 5 of the open tournament. The only member of Armenia’s team whose match ended in a draw was Sergei Movsesian, while the rest of team won their matches, 1–0.

Armenia now has 7 points, moving up from 13th place to 6th in the standings. Currently in first place is Bulgaria with 9 points, followed by Romania, Azerbaijan, France and Greece — all with 8 points each.
