The official unveiling of the monument to the 40th US President, Ronald Reagan, will take place in Tbilisi’s Rica Square on Nov. 23, the day of the 8th anniversary of Georgia’s Rose Revolution, as well as St. George’s Day (“Giorgoba”).
The unveiling of the monument is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the collapse of the Soviet Union. An excerpt from a speech by Ronald Reagan (“Each generation must take care to preserve freedom”) will be inscribed in English and Georgian on the statue’s pedestal.
The bronze sculpture depicts Reagan sitting on a bench. Anyone will be able to sit down next him and pose for a photo-op. The monument was moved to Rica Park on Sunday.
The sculpture is by Georgian sculptor Avtandil Monaselidze, who worked on the piece for 3 years, reports Gruzya (“Georgia”) Online.
Ronald Reagan was president of the United States from 1981 to 1989.
