Harutyun Arakelyan Gives Testimony in Nairit Case Accusing PM of Embezzlement

Democratic Liberal Party of Armenia (HRAK) leader Harutyun Arakelyan yesterday was called to the central police investigation department to give a testimony in the Nairit Plant case, reports Joghovurd. Recall, Arakelyan is accusing Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan in embezzling $31 million USD of state funds in the process of the sale of Nairit Plant in 2006 (when Tigran Sargsyan was head of the Central Bank).

The paper notes that investigator Artur Manukyan asked Arakelyan based on what information he is making such an accusation, to which the party leader responded that the information was sourced from websites, radio and TV broadcasts, videos and former Nairit employees.

Arakelyan said, according to the paper, that he will publish their names only after obtaining their consent.

On the same case, another local daily, Aravot, reports that the main motive behind Harutyun Arakelyan’s accusation against the PM is his business relations with Nairit. According to Aravot’s sources, those business relations didn’t go over so well — there were even criminal cases launched against the party leader, as a result of which Nairit suspended its cooperation with Arakelyan.
