Azerbaijan and Armenia to the West are ‘Something Very Vague and Unclear’

“All the negotiations in all the formats on the Karabakh conflict arrived at a dead end. It is now dangerous to begin any negotiations, if prior to starting them neither party has fresh ideas or proposals — primarily Azerbaijan and Russia. The well-known justification for the negotiation process — that negotiations in and of themselves are positive since they prevent war — no longer works. Moreover, empty talks and meetings for the sake of meetings unwittingly bring closer and provoke war,” said Center for Modelling of Strategic Development Vice-President Gregory Trofimchuk in an interview with the Baku-based Vesti.az.

According to Trofimchuk, to have Karabakh returned to Baku, Azerbaijan must make it so that the eyes of the international community perceive Azerbaijan in a more positive light than Armenia. “Unfortunately, today these two countries are virtually the same thing to the West — something very vague and unclear,” he said.
