The entire amount of state assistance to be given to Nana Muradyan, mother of Valeriy Muradyan, a soldier who died while in service on Mar. 15, 2010, is not being provided, Nana Muradyan herself told Epress.am today.
“A government decision allocated [the assistance given to] Paros [Foundation] to parents of slain soldiers, which was 13,500 drams [approx. $35.27 USD] and [an additional] 10,000 drams [approx. $26.13 USD] was given to parents of slain soldiers as transportation fare. I was receiving this money. But a few months ago, the government made a decision that the 10,000 allotments were to become 30,000 drams [approx. $78.39]. Today I want to say that I’m not asking them for charity, but money approved by a government decision which I have not yet received (that 30,000 drams),” she said.
Nana Muradyan then contacted the appropriate state social services department to find out why she is not receiving the 30,000 drams. She discovered that an investigation into her son’s case is still ongoing and it still has not been confirmed whether her son’s death was a suicide or not, which is why she is not yet receiving the additional assistance.
“And I asked if it isn’t yet decided, then why are they giving the 10,000 drams, why are they giving the Paros [money]? They also told me if it turns out that he was driven to suicide, then the money will reach me,” she said, adding that regardless, she will prove that her son was murdered.
Recall, according to the official cause of death, Valeriy Muradyan hung himself with a rope tied to a metal rod on Mar. 15, 2010.
