Opposition Mayoral Candidate is a ‘Decent Guy,’ Says Ruling Party Mayor

Mayor of the northern Armenian city of Spitak, ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) member Gagik Sahakyan, who has again put forth his candidacy for the Feb. 12 mayoral elections, considers one of his key issues to be creating jobs and building apartments, he said while speaking to Epress.am.

“We have an issue of gasification [installing gas pipes] in one neighborhood, which this year we will implement — of course, asphalt work and street lighting. The most important, of course, the issue of creating jobs and providing citizens who’ve lost their homes with apartments,” he said.

Weighing in on his sole opponent, opposition Pan-Armenian National Movement (HHSh) member Ananik Nikoghosyan, Gagik Sahakyan said:

“He’s a normal, decent person. For quite a long time he’s worked in different agencies of the city of Spitak and also [as] deputy mayor — he’s a normal guy,” he said.
