The question of withdrawing France from the OSCE Minsk Group is the responsibility of this very structure, head of EU representation in Baku Roland Kobia told reporters in Baku, commenting on such requests made by the Azerbaijani and Turkish public, reports 1news.az.
“I think such declarations and statements made over these past few days surpass all permissible boundaries, and I think they’re neither correct nor reflect the reality,” he said.
According to him, the decision was made on a national level, while “the European Union has no authority to intervene in national decisions.”
“Undoubtedly, this is a very serious step: one looks at it positively, while another, negatively, but the EU cannot interfere in these decisions,” he said.
Note, after the French Senate approved a bill criminalizing genocide denial (including that of the Armenian Genocide), Turkish and Azerbaijani peoples have been asking the EU to remove France as one of the co-chair countries in the Minsk Group to help mediate the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, explaining that France can no longer be unbiased in this matter.
