Dashnaktsutyun (the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, or ARF-D) looks at real politics with open eyes and understands very well that it might not achieve success regarding the issue of moving to a 100% proportional representation electoral list, said ARF-D MP Vahan Hovhannisyan, speaking to reporters in parliament today.
“Perhaps another situation is created; there could be a thousand and one modifications to concede, to move to a not completely 100% [proportional] system. It might be totally rejected,” he said.
According to the MP, if the parliamentary elections are held on the majority party-list basis, Dashnaktsutyun will have its own candidates if not in all then in very important electoral districts.
“That we also will fight to defend other candidates, say, those put forth by other opposition forces, is not ruled out, but mainly, of course, we will have our own candidates,” he said.
Asked how many seats, according to him, ARF-D will have in the next parliament, Hovhannisyan said that every political party strives to have as many seats in parliament as possible.
“The maximum 131 seats is unlikely. But we want there to be a change in government. This can happen when the opposition is able with its votes to make decisions in parliament, and this is what Dashnaktsutyn will strive for, and, of course, in that opposition it will strive to be the first, the strongest, the one that prescribes — this is our goal,” he said.
